Dark Film Mysteries IV: DVD Review

Film Chest Media Group has released three volumes of Dark Film Mysteries on DVD. These collections featured some of the best film noirs in cinema history. The term Film Noir is a style or genre of cinematographic film marked by a mood of pessimism, fatalism, and menace. These mysteries and thrilling films take us on a dark ride.

Well, after three amazing volumes, the journey into the dark is still not over. After a hiatus, Film Chest Media Group makes a triumphant return to physical media with the long-awaited Volume 4 has arrived on DVD.

The Big Combo (1955) A police lieutenant is ordered to stop investigating deadly crime boss Mr. Brown because he hasn't been able to get any hard evidence against him. He goes after Brown's girlfriend, who despises him, for information instead. ***

Borderline (1950) Two undercover agents infiltrate a drug-smuggling ring in Mexico, but neither is aware of the other's identity. ***

The Chase (1946) Chuck Scott gets a job as chauffeur to tough guy Eddie Roman; but Chuck's involvement with Eddie's fearful wife becomes a nightmare. ***

The Second Woman (1950) Ellen Foster visits her aunt. While there she meets Jeff Cohalan is a successful architect haunted by the mysterious death of his fiancée in a car accident the night before their wedding.

Too Late for Tears (1949) Through a fluke circumstance, a ruthless woman stumbles across a suitcase filled with $60,000, and is determined to hold onto it even if it means murder. ***

The Naked Kiss (1964) A former prostitute relocates to a buttoned-down suburb, determined to fit in with mainstream society. But perverse secrets simmer beneath the wholesome surface. ***

Please Murder Me! (1956) A lawyer suffers a guilt complex after getting a murder acquittal for his client, and then finding out she did commit the crime. ***

St. Louis Bank Robbery (1959) A gang's plans for a St. Louis bank robbery are complicated when the sister of one of the thieves starts voicing her well-founded suspicions. ***

Dishonored Lady (1947) An editor at a fashion magazine has a breakdown due to the pressures of her work and her disappointing love life. A psychiatrist recommends that she start life fresh by moving into a smaller apartment and under another name. ***

The Kennel Murder Case (1933) Philo Vance, accompanied by his prize-losing Scottish terrier, investigates the locked-room murder of a prominent and much-hated collector whose broken Chinese vase provides an important clue. ***

The Man with the Golden Arm (1955) Frankie Machine, a former heroin addict and skilled card dealer, as he returns home resolved to go straight and pursue his dream of becoming a drummer. But battling his demons may be too much for him to handle. ***

The Man who Cheated Himself (1950) A veteran homicide detective who has witnessed his socialite girlfriend kill her husband sees his newly-minted detective brother assigned to the case alongside him. ***

These 12 film noirs are tremendous entertainment. They feature such Hollywood heavyweights as; Fred MacMurray, Raymond Burr, Hedy Lamarr, Robert Young, Angela Lansbury, Peter Lorre, Steve McQueen, William Powell, Kim Novak and Frank Sinatra just to name a few. 

These 12 film noirs have been transferred to DVD across three DVD discs. That is four movies per DVD. These films are presented in their original full screen format. The picture quality of these films are surprisingly good.
