Troma’s Frightmare Blu-ray Review – Cult Horror Splatter Classic on HD

In the 1980s Troma Entertainment brought the world such cult classics as the Toxic Avenger, Christmas Evil, Class of Nuke 'Em High, and Frightmare.

In 1983 Troma released the slasher flick Frightmare. Frightmare has passed the 40th anniversary of it's initial release. So Troma Home Entertainment have released this cult classic on Blu-ray with cool bonus features.

Synopsis: Following the death of legendary horror actor Conrad Radzoff (Ferdy Mayne, The Howling II, Conan the Destroyer), a group of overzealous drama students steal his corpse from his crypt and take it to the decrepit haunted house where his finest fright films were made. As the night goes on, the students lean the true meaning of terror, as Conrad's vengeful spirit takes them out one by one.

Frightmare features the gory fun Troma fans have come to know and love. The special effects are spectacular and are produced by Chuck E. Stewart (Critters, The X Files, Bruce Almighty). The cast features performances by Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator), Nina Talbot (Night Shift, Puppet Master II), Scott Thomson (Police Academy I-IV) and Donna McDaniel (Hollywood Hot Tub).

Frightmare is a fast-paced horror film. It runs less than 90 minutes, so there is no time for boredom to set in. Also, it is a splatter fest that gore hounds will revel in. But just be aware there is a lot of bloody violence. So, this film is not for every horror fan.

Frightmare has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in HD framed in 1.78:1 widescreen. The audio track is an English Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track with optional English subtitles.

Frightmare looks really crisp and clean in HD! The colors are vibrant, and the flesh tones are correct. There is no oversaturation. The audio is clear. This is a really nice-looking transfer to Blu-ray. But Troma didn't just put the film on a Blu-ray and that's it. Not by a longshot. They added some wonderful bonus features to this disc. Take a look at what is included.
