Bonnie Scotland (Warner Archive Blu-ray Review)

You would be hard-pressed to find a comedy team that is more iconic than that of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. These two put to film many hilarious moments in their short subjects and their feature films.

In 1935, Stan and Ollie took a trip to Scotland for one of their funniest adventures with Bonnie Scotland. Warner Archive Collection has restored this comedy classic and released it on Blu-ray for the first time ever.

Synopsis: Laurel and Hardy are at their best in this Hal Roach production as they bumble their way across the British Empire, and the Empire may never be the same after the comic duo lands in Bonnie Scotland. Stan Laurel, the black sheep of the MacLaurel clan, and his pal Oliver Hardy stow away on a ship bound for Scotland to claim Laurel's share of his late uncle Angus Ian MacLaurel's estate. But Laurel's inheritance consists of a snuffbox and a dusty pair of bagpipes.

The dynamic of Laurel and Hardy films are the same: you know what you're getting, and that is a funny adventure. While Bonnie Scotland is not on the level of Sons of the Desert or The Music Box, it is a wonderfully funny and entertaining film. 

Bonnie Scotland has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

As with all Warner Archive Collection restorations, Warner puts its best foot forward with this film. Bonnie Scotland has never looked more crisp and clean. While not every scene is perfect, for the most part this is a tremendous looking restorationon.
