Disaster films have been popular since the beginning of cinema. Whether it was The Great Train Robbery, San Francisco or Titanic. Audiences seem to enjoy a good disaster. Maybe it's morbid curiosity or maybe it's the people like to see films about the human spirit in the face of disaster. I'm not sure!
In the 1970s disaster films became overly popular, with such films as Earthquake, The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno. But also popular was The Airport movie series. Now Kino Lorber have decided to release a deluxe 4k UltraHD of Airport The Complete 4-Film Collection.
Our Rating System:
****=Don’t miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Kino Lorber have transferred these four films to 4K in 2160p. The first three films are in 2.35:1 aspect ratio and the last film is in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. There are two English audio tracks a 5.1 Surround and Lossless 2.0. Finally, there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
These are not just any transfers. They come from brand new HDR/Dolby Vision Masters – From 4K Scans of the 35mm Original Camera Negatives and 35mm Interpositive Reduction Element (Airport). I haven't seen these film is many years, so seeing them now in 4K is like watching them for the first time. The picture s crisp and clean. The colors are bright and vibrant and the audio is clear as a bell These are wonderful looking restorations.
Now in addition to great 4K restorations of these films. Kino Lorber made this box set a DigiBook. But not just any DigiBook . When you open the DigiBook to the specific film you can see the original poster. That is so awesome! But that is not all. Take a look at what other bonus features are included.
Special Features:
• NEW Audio Commentary for AIRPORT by Film Historian/Writer Julie Kirgo and Author/Screenwriter C. Courtney Joyner
• NEW Audio Commentary for AIRPORT 1975 by Film Historians Steve Mitchell and Nathaniel Thompson

All told this is one of the most impressive releases that I have seen from Kino Lorber this year. The quality to the discs and the spectacular quality of the DigiBook really makes this release not just entertaining. But a deluxe showpiece. I highly recommend this release from fans of disaster films of the 70s.
