Joan Crawford Collection Blu-ray Review – Warner Archive Brings Hollywood Glamour to HD

For some the name Joan Crawford brings to remembrance the novel and film "Mommy Dearest". But her youngest children deny the abuse of their mother. Sadly, even if the book was a fabrication many people still believe the lies. But there was no denying she was a tremendous actress.

Just before the turn of the century the American Film Institute voted Joan Crawford #10 of their list of the greatest female star of the classic American cinema. She was also listed #84 in "100 Sexiest Women of the 20th century".

Warner Archive Collection have been releasing collection of Blu-ray for amazing actresses. Lately we have seen the Bette David Collection and the Judy Garland Collection. Now Warner Archive released a 4 movie Blu-ray set of Joan Crawford movies.

Grand Hotel (1932) A group of very different individuals staying at a luxurious hotel in Berlin deal with each of their respective dramas. ***

The Women (1939) A study of the lives and romantic entanglements of various interconnected women. ***

Possessed (1947) After being found wandering the streets of Los Angeles, a severely catatonic woman tells a doctor the complex story of how she wound up there. ***

The Damned Don't Cry (1950) A New York socialite climbs the ladder of success man by man until a life among rich gangsters gives her what she thought she always wanted. ***

These 4 films each receive their own dedicated Blu-ray disc. The films are transferred in 1080pand are presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The audio tracks are English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. Finally, there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

As with every Warner Archive Blu-ray release you know you are receiving a great looking copy of the film. These films are in black and white and are crisp and clean. The term was "in glorious black and white." This term is perfect for these Blu-rays.
