Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Legacy Collection DVD Review – Classic Suspense Anthology in Timeless Form

Alfred Hitchcock was known as "The Master of Suspense". His films thrilled theater goers and continue to thrill audiences all these years later. Who hasn't watched films like North by Northwest, Psycho, The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo, or The Man who knew too much.

In 1955 during the heights of his career Hitchcock was given the opportunity to host a weekly anthology series. This would become one of his favorite things to do. He brought his macabre dry sense of humor to Alfred Hitchcock Presents. And for seven amazing seasons TVs were tuned in to the stories of mystery suspense and horror.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment have collected all season previously released on DVD and have boxed them up into one huge box set. Now in case you missed the individual releases you can get the whole series in Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Legacy Collection now on DVD!

Synopsis: From 1955-1962, the most famous director in the world hosted, produced and occasionally directed the iconic anthology series that, in the words of Hitchcock himself, "brought murder back into the home - where it belongs."

The series ran for 7 seasons and 263 episodes. Hitchcock was able to get many amazing guest stars for this series just some of these Hollywood stars included; Robert Redford, Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Joan Fontaine, Claude Rains, Walter Matthau, Thelma Ritter, Joseph Cotton, Peter Falk, Teresa Wright, Leslie Nielsen, Dick York, James Gleason, Peter Lawford, and Patricia Hitchcock (Alfred's daughter).

During the 7 seasons many great directors sat in the director's chair for these episodes. We saw episodes directed by,
Robert Altman (M*A*S*H), Ida Lupino (The Trouble with Angels), Stuart Rosenberg (Cool Hand Luke), Robert Stevenson (Mary Poppins), and William Friedkin (The French Connection). TV director Robert Stevens directed the most episodes at 44 episodes and even Hitchcock himself entered the director's chair to direct 17 episodes.

Alfred Hitchcock is a wonderful anthology series that still holds up 70 years later.
Time magazine named Alfred Hitchcock Presents as one of "The 100 Best TV Shows of All Time" and deservedly so!

Universal has transferred these episodes 34 DVD discs. The episodes are presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English Dolby Digital 2.0. There is the option for subtitles in English and Spanish. The episodes look crisp and clean and sound clear as a bell.

In addition to 263 episodes there are two bonus featurettes "Alfred Hitchcock Presents: A Look Back" and Fasten Your Seatbelt: The Thrilling art of Alfred Hitchcock.

Each season has its own DVD case, and all 7 season DVD cases are housed in a ridged box sleeve. The front cover has the iconic Hitchcock silhouette and on the back a picture of Hitch with his head in his hands.

This series is so well produced these episodes can be watched over and over again. I am so glad to have this series box set in my collection. It goes perfectly alongside The Alfred Hitchcock Ultimate collection.
