Icons Unearthed: Fast and the Furious: Mill Creek Entertainment Blu-ray Review

No one would have ever dreamed that from a little article on street racing would come one of the most successful and longest running film franchises. But that is exactly what "Fast and Furious" is.

To think from humble beginnings this film would get some of the biggest stars in music and acting. I'm talking Vin Diesel, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Gal Gadot, Ludacris, Eva Mendes, Ja Rule, John Cena, Bow Wow, Jason Momoa and Kurt Russell and even Bruce Willis, okay not really (You'll need to see this series to get that joke).

The documentary series Icons Unearthed have been laying down the history of great TV and movies series. And Mill Creek Entertainment have been releasing these on Blu-ray, which I have been thoroughly loving. We have seen the Blu-ray releases of the Star Wars and The Simpsons. But now Fast and Furious is at the line and ready to peel out.

Synopsis: It all began with a magazine article that exposed the world of illegal drag racing in cities across America. Creatives at Universal would make a modest action film featuring drag racing, car modification - and of course, family - from its pages. What should have been a one-off popcorn summer flick followed by a straight-to-video sequel became one of the largest film franchises of all time.

The six part documentary series features interviews with writers and stars of this franchise including but not limited to, Chad Lindberg, Gary Scott Thompson, Roger Corman, Tyrese Gibson, Thom Barry, Michael Brandt, Tip "T.I." Harris. It is expertly directed by Brian Volk-Weiss. These episodes feature clips from the movies. They are so well produced and fast paced. I got through this series in no time.

Mill Creek Entertainment have loaded all six (around 45 minute) episodes on one disc. There are presented in 1080p and presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

You might think that 6 episodes on one disc would suffer in quality. But I would consider these episodes to look pretty crisp and clean. I didn't see and digital artifacts when I was watching them. But a wonderful looking 6 part documentary series is not all that is included here. They added another Blu-ray disc. On this disc is bonus interviews with actor Tyrese Gibson, actor/musician Tip "T.I." Harris, actor Lucas Black, Co-Founder of New World Pictures Roger Corman and stunt coordinator JJ Perry.

Every time Mill Creek Entertainment releases another one of these Icons Unearthed Blu-ray I rejoice. I really truly enjoy them. I have always loved documentaries and biographies. So these are really up my alley. I can not wait to see what is next.

So if you love documentary, or the Icons Unearthed series. Or if you love the Fast and Furious franchise, this new Blu-ray set is a must own for your collection. Head over to Deep Discount and order your copy today.
