In 2022 a new documentary series debuted entitled Icons Unearthed. This series would delve deep into some of our favorite movie and TV series. And yes of course it would go into great detail on Star Wars. Now Mill Creek Entertainment has released this documentary series on Blu-ray!
From the earliest screen play draft to the excitement when the lights go down in the theater, Icons Unearthed: Star Wara digs up the real story of how the legendary films were made. Filmed everywhere from Tunisia to England, Canada to Italy, all 50 states, this series features a treasure trove of incredible information including Marcia Lucas’s first ever on camera interview. Conversations with cast, crew, and experts give us the deepest of dives into how the most iconic movie franchise in history came to be.
This six part documentary series was expertly directed by Brian Volk-Weiss. Now I have watched my fair share of Star Wars documentaries and in this series I found some information I never heard. And that was cool.
In this 6 part series we hear from some of the people that truly made Star Wars what it is! We heard from Marcia Lucas (Film Editor), Anthony Daniels (Actor – 3P0), Billy Dee Willaims (Actor – Lando Calrissian), Ian McDiarmid (Actor – The Emperor), Julian Glover (Actor – General Veers), Paul Hirsch (Film Editor), Phill Tippett (Miniatures & Optical Effects), Rick Baker (Makeup Artist), Richard Edlund (Miniatures & Optical Effects), John Dykstra (Special Effects Supervisor).
Each episode runs less than an hour. The first two episodes deal with the first movie A New Hope. The third features The Empire Strikes Back. The fourth The Return of the Jedi. The final two episodes, episode 5 The Phantom Menace and episode 6 Attack of the Clone and Revenge of the Sith.
Now this is a two-disc Blu-ray set. The first disc collects all 6 episodes. But the second disc features the complete unedited interviews with Marcia Lucas (192 Minutes), Anthony Daniels (173 Minutes) and Billy Dee Williams (37 Minutes).
These 6 documentaries have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in widescreen format in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
I have streamed these episodes before watching them on this release. On this Blu-ray the episodes look and sound crisp and clean. There are no digital artifacts. Much better than streaming. They look tremendous to say the least.
After seeing this release from Mill Creek Entertainment, I am hoping to see more of these Icons Unearthed series coming to Blu-ray. It truly would be awesome to see. Fingers Crossed!
If you are a fan of Star Wars as much as I am you need this Blu-ray in your collection. I would even go as far to say your collection isn't complete without it. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today.
Out of 4 TV Sets (4 being the best) This new Blu-ray of Icons Unearthed Star War receives....
