3 Godfathers (1948) Blu-ray Review

John Wayne and John Ford collaborated to make 12 films. Of those 12 films my favorites have to be, The Searchers (1952), The Quiet Man (1952), The Man who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) and Donovan's Reef (1963).

To be honest I had never seen the John Ford and John Wayne film 3 Godfathers, until Warner Archive Collection released it on Blu-ray. So, for me what a way to witness this film for the first time, on restored HD Blu-ray!

Three outlaws Robert Marmaduke Sangster Hightower (John Wayne), Pedro Roca Fuerte (Pedro Armendariz) and William Kearney aka 'The Abilene Kid' (Harry Carey Jr.) risk their freedom and even their lives to return a dying mother's newborn to the village of New Jerusalem.

Now I have seen many John Wayne films in my life, but 3 Godfathers is a standout film. John Wayne is normally the hard nose cowboy or marine, ect. Here we see John as a fatherly protector. John Ford directs a moving western, and a western that I can truly say I believe is one of his best!

Warner Archive Collection has transferred 3
Godfathers to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.37:1. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Warner Archive has restored this film and what a restoration it is. The colors are bright and vibrant. The picture is crisp and clean and the audio is clear. There is no specks of dirt or debris and there is no hiss or pops. This is a tremendous looking restoration. But that is not all that is included on this Blu-ray! Warner Archive added an amazing bonus feature!

* 1936 feature Three Godfathers directed by Richard Boleslawski

* Original Theatrical Trailers for both the 1936 and 1948 films

Not only did Warner Archive restore the 1948 John Ford film, but they also restored the 1936 film as well! This is simply amazing. This Blu-ray is two films for the price of one! How do you beat that? You can't!

It is amazing when you realize the novella was made twice by John Ford (1919 silent version and this 1948 version). The first talking version 1929 William Wyler's version and the 1936 Richard Boleslawski version. I think that is where 3 Men and a Baby's story came from.

If you want to see a heartwarming western. I highly recommend 3 Godfathers. And if you want the perfect way to see it, it is on this Warner Archive Collection Blu-ray. So,
if you love John Wayne films this new Blu-ray release of 3 Godfathers is an absolute must own. Head over to MovieZyng and order your copy today!
