Mexico Barbaro II (2017) Blu-ray Review

I have to be honest I have never seen the horror anthology Mexico Barbaro from 2014. But I received Mexico Barbaro II (2017) from Unearthed Films Blu-ray.

Now Unearthed Films continuously amazes me at the quality of products they put out. Here recently we have seen Blu-rays like Calamity if Snakes, Suburra, The Sound of Summer, Deadgirl and Full Body Massage.

In this new horror anthology, 9 Mexican directors come together to narrate more traditions and brutal, ruthless and bizarre legends of their country. Mexico Barbaro shows the world the parts of their popular culture, from sweet stories told by their grandmothers, to the dark and disturbing ancestral culinary bloody rites. Traditions and legends that today continue to cause terror among Mexican people.

Juan the Soldier: A soldier who is wrongfully executed and in Hell, makes a pact with the Devil to exact his revenge.

Paidos Phobos: A woman who has something she is terrified of locked up in a bedroom. It goes from strange to worse when a voice calls her Mom.

Potzonalli: A family plots revenge on the husband/father of the family who has abused them.

Fireballs:  Two guys hire two female escorts to appear in an adult film. When they arrive, they’re drop-dead gorgeous, but they’re have a secret.

Vitriol: A woman is suffering from anxiety, it is far worse than we dreamed.

Don’t Sleep: A young boy is haunted by the warning of his late grandmother, to drink enough water.

Ya Es Hora: Two middle school girls are sick of being bullied by the popular girls, so they decide to use black magic to hex them.

Exodoncia: A woman is trying to overcome her heroin addiction, but finds it is destroying who she is.

This horror anthology features directors you can literally see have great futures! A lot of adult content including violence and gore, drugs and more. Some of this content maybe a bit much for some film fans. The gore could be stomach-churning. So, viewer discretion is advised.

Mexico Barbaro II has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p the stories presented in this anthology are in 2.35:1 and 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio is in Spanish DTS-HD 5.1 and PCM 2.0. There is English subtitles included so that you can follow the stories.

The film was produced in 2017 so there was no need for a restoration. But the film's transfer to Blu-ray is really nice. The colors are nice, the picture is crisp, and the audio is clean. I just wished there could have been English dubbing. That would have made this release better. In addition to a nice looking transfer there is some nice bonus features included on this disc. Take a look at what is included.

* Bolas de Fuego Featurette

* Exodoncia Featurette

* Juan Soldado Featurette

* No Te Duermas Featurette

* Vitriol Featurette
* Stills Gallery
* Theatrical Trailer

Horror anthology films are always a lot of fun. And while Mexico Barbaro II is a bit to gory for my taste, there is no denying the entertainment value jammed into this 95 minute film. With bonuses of the featurettes, gallery and the Theatrical Trailer. Even though the gore was a bit much for me, I know horror film fans and gore hounds will love this Blu-ray!
