Film Director Nicolas Roeg was best known for directing Performance (1970), Walkabout (1971), Don't Look Now (1973), The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976), Bad Timing (1980) and The Witches (1990). But in 1995 he would direct Mimi Rogers in Full Body Massage now Unearthed Classics and MVD Visual are releasing this film on Blu-ray.
Nina (Mimi Rogers), a successful but world-weary art dealer, is surprised to find that her regular masseur has sent a substitute, Fitch (Bryan Brown), to continue her weekly massage sessions. Fitchs therapeutic caresses, while charged with sexual tension, gain emotional significance as the opinionated pair first clash, and then bond while relaying thoughtful meditations on intimacy and human relationships. Free to discuss her life, hopes and failures, Nina is liberated from her confused world, indulging in a strange, erotic mysticism with her handy muse. Brilliantly helmed by British director Roeg, Full Body Massage is an exhilarating and sophisticated portrait of sensual love.
This film is not for everyone. It is an extremely niche film genre. It really is for only fans of erotic films. I have to say for me this was not really an enjoyable experience. I am just not a fan of these kinds of movies. For me there is no intrigue or depth to this story. But I guess for fans of this genre I can see this being one that that person would want to see.
This film transfer features a brand new 2K scan and has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p. It is presented in 1.66:1 anamorphic aspect ratio. The Audio is LPCM 2.0. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
This new 2K scan is a thing of beauty. It really looks and sounds amazing! But Unearthed Classics didn't stop at a beautiful scan of this films they actually added some very cool bonus features! Take a look at what us included.
* TV Version: A 1.33:1 full frame version that ran 93 minutes.
* Image Gallery
* Original Trailer
* Additional Trailers for Tokyo Decadence and Nightwish
As I said above this film was not an enjoyable experience for me. But I do love that facts that films are getting physical media releases. I truly appreciate the preservation of films. And Unearthed Classics and MVD Visual did a nice job with this release. With a new 2k Scan and the addition of the Full screen TV Version is a nice bonus. It is nice to see lesser-known films getting a chance to shine on Blu-ray!
