Mill Creek Entertainment has released some very cool sports related releases here recently. a historical Nazi drama about soccer entitled "The Match", a beach volleyball film Side Out, but my absolute favorite was the Blu-ray release of the boxing drama Requiem for a Heavyweight. But now its time for a Baseball related release with "Running the Bases".
When a small-town coach gets the offer of a lifetime from a larger 6A High School, h uproots his family and laves the only home he's ever known. But as a man of faith, he soon faces extreme opposition to his coaching methods from the school superintendent.
This film is an exciting, dramatic, inspiring and encouraging piece of cinema for the whole family to enjoy. The acting is pretty good. Brett Varvel (The War Within) does a tremendous job as the lead, as do Gigi Orsillio (Sleeper Agent), Michael Ochotorena (Godsend), Cameron Arnett (The Wager) in supporting roles. Though admittedly the average films fans will not see faces easily recognized. This is still a nice little faith-based sports drama.
The film is presented in 1080p in widescreen format. The audio is a dts-HD 5.1 surround sound and there is English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. As the film is a 2022 release you can expect pretty impressive video quality. The transfer is clean! The pictures is sharp and the audio is clean. This is a very nice transfer to Blu-ray. But a nice transfer is not all that this release has going for it. There is a couple cool bonus features, although it would have been nice to see some more.

If you have enjoyed films like Facing the Giants, Soul Surfer, American Underdog or Overcomer, than Running the Bases is going to be one that will be right up your ally. But for those looking for straight sports related films without the faith in it. This may not be for you!
