Slowest Gun in the West (1960) {DVD Review}

Phil Silvers was known as "The King of Chutzpah" and one of the greatest comedians of all time. He is probably best known for his time as Sergeant Bilko on his TV series. After the show ended. He and Bilko creator Nat Hiken reunited to make 4 hour long TV specials.

On of those specials was entitled "The Slowest Gun in the West". Now the good folks at VCI Entertainment is giving the classic tv fan a chance to own this special with an awesome on DVD.

The film takes place in the town of Primrose, Arizona. The town is overrun by outlaws. Every sheriff hired is murdered. The mayor finally turns to Fletcher Bissell III, better known as "The Silver Dollar Kid", a lawman who is so much a coward, no gunslinger wants to sully their reputation by shooting him.

Soon peace is restored and the crooks realize the only way to get rid of Bissell is to hire a gunman just as cowardly as he is. They find one in "Chicken" Finsterwald (Jack Benny), who once shot an 84-year-old woman in the back. Now it's a showdown between the two slowest guns in the West...if they don't die of fright first!

This hour long adventure bringing two of the funniest TV comedians together for a romp in the Old West. Putting these two comedy legends together and dropping them in the old west to face off against each other.... perfect. Phil Silvers and Jack Benny are truly two of my favorite classic comedians from the  early days of television.

This TV presentation has been transferred to DVD it is presented in it's original full screen format and the audio is a 2.0. The picture and audio quality of this TV presentation is pretty good when you realize the age of this production.

Now VCI Entertainment have produced this DVD-R disc with a very cool DVD Menu complete with clips from the featured presentation.

For me this release seeing these two in one place at the same time, just amazing! I am proud to display this DVD release right in my Phil Silvers collection. Classic TV fans will love having this piece TV history as well.
