The American Revolution: 6 Part Documentary (PBS Blu-ray Review)

PBS has been releasing a few great documentary series on Blu-ray. We have had the extreme pleasure of reviewing Muhammad Ali and The American Buffalo. These documentaries are masterfully crafted by Ken Burns and other fine filmmakers.

Now the next documentary series is The American Revolution. A Massive 12 hour six episode series is collected on this 6 disc Blu-ray set.

Synopsis: Thirteen American colonies unite in rebellion, win an eight-year war to secure their independence, and establish a new form of government that would inspire democratic movements at home and around the globe. What begins as a political clash between colonists and the British government grows into a bloody struggle that will engage more than two dozen nations and forever change the world.

Ken Burns, Sarah Botsein and David Schmidt bring The American Revolution history to film in all of its uncomforatable truths. We hear all about the terrors or war, slavary and so much more. 

Episode 1: In Order To Be Free
Episode 2: An Asylum fr Mankind
Episode 3: The Times That Try Men's Souls
Episode 4: Conquer by a Drawn Game 
Episode 5: The Soul of All America
Episode 6: The Most Sacred Thing

This six part series has been transerrred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in the Original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. There are three audio tracks to choose from, an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, a Spanish DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 and an English audio descriptive track. There is also the option for subtitles in English and Spanish.

In all honesty here these episodes are not as crisp and clean as some would hope. There is some compression issues visable as you watch these episodes. Nothing so terrible that you can not enjoy the series. But it is soemthing to note.

Now each episode recieves its own Blu-ray disc. But as for bonus features, there is not one bonus feature found on this whole set. That is disappinting. It would have been nice for 6 Blu-ray discs to see a couple bonus features. But alas there is none.
