As we are coming upon the anniversary of the passing of comedy legend John Candy. I felt this was a great time to remember the Candy genius of John, with a little Top 7 list. 

John was born October 31, 1950 in Newmarket, Ontario to the hard-working Catholic family. His father died of complications of heart disease at age 35 in 1955 when John was five years old.

John Candy in his early 20s gained a lot of exposure via his time on Second City Television aka SCTV series. It wasn't long till he stared working in the movie industry along side comedy legends Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd and Mel Brooks.

So today we are giving our Top 7 favorite John Candy films. Take a look!

7. Canadian Bacon (1995)
The U.S. President, low in the opinion polls, gets talked into raising his popularity by trying to start a cold war against Canada.

Harry Crumb is a bumbling and inept private investigator who is hired to solve the kidnapping of a young heiress which he's not expected to solve because his employer is the mastermind behind the kidnapping.

1. Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
A Chicago advertising man must struggle to travel home from New York for Thanksgiving, with a lovable oaf of a shower curtain ring salesman as his only companion. 

John Candy was able to stretch his comedy wings an show his ability to bring the heart to the film, in the films Cool Runnings and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. 

For all the laughter John Candy brought the world there was a lot going behind the mask of the clown. 
John dealt with obesity and binge eating. His weighed would exceed 300 pounds at times. But that would not be his only struggle. He would struggle with anxiety smoking addition, smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, alcohol and even drug use.

On March 4, 1994 John Candy passed away, he was only 43 years old! A spokeswoman said that his cause of death was a heart attack. He left behind his wife, Rosemary Hobor, and two children, Christopher Michael and Jennifer Anne.

Sadly John Candy's career was cut short. We can only dream about what other films we may have been treated to. But in his short career he left a legacy of over 40 films that we can relive over and over and over again. John Candy's comedy truly will live forever.
