In 1960 audiences and critics marveled at the thrilling scifi horror film Village of the Damned. All about a village that suddenly fall unconscious that wakes up. The women are pregnant and give birth to children with extraordinary powers.
In July of 2018 Warner Archive released Village of the Damned on Blu-ray you can read the full review here. Now after a long wait it is time for the sequel 1964's Children of the Damned to get it's time to shine of Blu-ray.
The film follows two scientists Tom Lewellin and David Neville (Ian Hendry and Alan Badel) are studying a group of super-intelligent children. Before they truly understand the children's power, they are deemed threats. The children band together in an old church and use their telepathy to defend themselves. Leading to one final faceoff.
Now as with most sequels (with very few exceptions) the original is always superior. But that does not mean that Children of the Damned is not an entertaining film. The children are just as creepy in this film as they were in Village. What makes this a little cooler is to see children of different nationalities represented this time around.
Village of the Damned had a stellar cast, while Children of the Damned may not have a big stars the actors and actresses put everything into their roles and you can tell it as the terror feels real because of it.
Children of the Damned has been transferred in 1080p in 1.85:1 aspect ratio with a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. This film looks beautiful in HD. The picture is crisp and free of damage and the audio is clear with not signs of hiss or pops.
Now Warner Archive have added with this release a very insightful audio commentary by the original screenplay writer of Children of the Damned John Briley. That in my opinion is worth the price alone. Also there is the theatrical trailer included on this Blu-ray. This makes for a really nice release.
