Cary Grant started in some of the best films in cinema history. From comedies like Bringing up Baby' to adventures like Hitchcock's North by Northwest.
Recently Warner Archive released a Blu-ray of a Cary Grant comedy drama entitled Room for One More. Now it's time for one of my favorite Cary Grant comedies to shine on Blu-ray 1948s Mr. Blandings builds his dream house.
Advertising executive Jim Blandings (Cary Grant) is happy with his home and family. But he finds out that his wife (Myrna Loy) plan to redecorate their New York apartment. Figuring to discourage here he suggests they move to Connecticut. But what he didn't expect was that she would agree.
They go to buy a house, but find themselves conned into a nightmare of a house. As the bills pile up for construction and repairs, Jim realizes he must write a great jingle to sell ham, if he is going to be able to survive this money pit.
I absolutely love this film. It reminds me of another classic film that I love so much. It just happens to be another Warner Archive release on DVD George Washington Slept Here. Cary Grant and Myrna Loy are the perfect cinematic one two punch. But that is not all they are joined by a great supporting cast Melvyn Douglas, Reginald Denny, Louise Beavers (Beulah, TV Show), Friedrich von Ledebur (Moby Dick), Stanley Andrews (Death Valley Days).
When examining the film now over 70 years later, while the house decor may be a bit dated, but the comedy is still as hilarious as it was in the late forties. It proves to me one thing, true comedy never expires.
This film is transferred from a new 4k scan in it's original full screen format in 1080p in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. When I watched this film in HD I can honestly say this is glorious black and white. There is no signs of damage to this print. The picture is crisp and clear and the audio has no hiss or pops. It is stunning looking Blu-ray transfer.

Warner Archive did a beautiful job with this film. But the Blu-ray doesn't end with just the film... Oh No! Warner Archive put some really awesome bonuses on this Blu-ray. Take a look at is included:
* Lux Radio Theater (1949) show with Grant and Irene Dunne.
This is a 57 minute radio version of Mr. Blandings builds his dream house.
* Screen Director's Playhouse (1950) version with Grant and Betsy Drake.
This is a 29 minute radio version of Mr. Blandings builds his dream house.
* Classic Tex Aver Cartoon: The House of Tomorrow
While this cartoon may be considered offensive in this day and age. I would say it is mostly innocent enough and a great addition to this release.

When I look at this new Blu-ray release in comparison to my old DVD release I have to say there is no comparison. This Blu-ray is a triumph in classic comedy and it looks better than ever. I can not recommend this release enough for someone who just wants to sit down and laugh. And after all sometime life is just so tough we need to laugh!
So if you are a fan of classic comedy, Cary Grant or Myrna Loy this Mr. Blandings builds his dream house is a must own Blu-ray. You can order your copy by heading over to Amazon.com today. You are going to love this film!
