Karate Kid Double Feature

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

In the 80s many film impacted people, but probably the one that made us all want to take karate classes was The Karate Kid. The amazing film introduced us to the sensei Mr. Miyagi played by the great Pat Morita. The film spawned 3 sequels.

Now The great folks at Mill Creek Entertainment are releasing the final 2 films in the series with Pat Morita on Blu-ray! Let's take a look at this Double Feature blu-ray release.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend some time.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Karate Kid III (1989) Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) return home from Okinawa and hope for a peaceful life in their bonsai shop. But serenity is shattered when Daniel is blackmailed into competing against the vicious Mike Barnes. ***

The Next Karate Kid (1994) Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) is back and he takes a new pupil under his wing, troubled teenager Julie Pierce (Oscar®-winner Hillary Swank). Through his teaching she learns to control her grief and anger from the loss of her parents with the discipline of karate. **

While maybe none of the sequels were as amazing as the original film, (which very few film sequels are) these are great forms of entertainment. I watched the whole series again and the films still hold up today. Good storytelling and good direction doesn't get old. And plus anything that has Mr. Miyagi in it is entertaining, that's for sure.

Now for the blu-ray release itself. T
hese two films are presented in 1080p High definition Widescreen 1.78:1. The audio in Karate Kid Part 3 is in Dolby digital 5.1 and The Next Karate Kid is in Dolby Digital 2.0. These transfers look stunning in my opinion. There is no bonus features, but your getting two films in HD, no complaints from me.

So if your a fan of Pat Morita or the Karate Kid series this is a must add to your collection! Head over to MillCreekEnt.com and order your copy today!
