In 1993 Milan Trenc released a children's book The Night at the Museum. This is the origin of the story. 13 years later the children's book would make it's way to the big screen and spawn two additional films! Recently I picked up the complete collection!
The idea is fairly simple! The movie's follow Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), a divorced father who applies for a job as a night watchman at New York City's American Museum of Natural History and soon discovers that the exhibits, come to life at night.
Let's take a look at the films in this trilogy!
Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.
Night at the Museum (2006) A newly recruited night security guard at the Museum of Natural History discovers that an ancient curse causes the animals and exhibits on display to come to life and wreak havoc. ***
Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian (2009) Security guard Larry Daley infiltrates the Smithsonian Institution in order to rescue Jedediah and Octavius, who have been shipped to the museum by mistake. ***
Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014) Larry spans the globe, uniting favorite and new characters while embarking on an epic quest to save the magic before it is gone forever. ***
Ben Stiller does a really good job leading this film series. But the supporting cast is outshines everyone! You have the late great Robin Williams, TV Legend Dick Van Dyke and Hollywood Heavyweight Mickey Rooney just to name a few.
The stories are a perfect mix for the whole family. They are simple enough for the young ones to enjoy, but not too simple that the adults will get bored.
The films are collected on three separate DVDs. They are presented in widescreen format and in Dolby digital surround sound. Each DVD has it's own unique set of bonus features!
This trilogy is a nice collection of good popcorn films. These are not the great American western. These films are not Citizen Kane. These are just films to escape from the cares of life.
So if you want a fun escapism trilogy Night at the Museum is a good one to add to your collection. Head over to Amazon.com and pick up a copy for yourself!
