What are the true film origin stories of superheroes Batman and The Shadow? They are found in the serials. Serial were short episodes played before the features at the theaters and was a way to get people to come back to the theater the next week. Now thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment’s release of Superhero Origins we can add these film classics to our collection. Let’s take a look at this collection.

The Shadow (1940)
Lamont Cranston aka The Shadow (Victor Jory) battles a criminal mastermind known as The Black Tiger, who has the power to make himself invisible and is trying to take over the world with his death ray. ***


Batman (1943)
Mild-mannered Bruce Wayne (Lewis Wilson) becomes Batman, to protects Gotham City from the evil schemes of Dr. Tito Daka and his radium-powered death ray, a deadly alligator pit and electronic zombies. ***


Batman and Robin (1949)
Batman (Robert Lowery) and Robin (John Duncan) help Commissioner Gordon battle the Wizard, who stole a top-secret remote device allowing him to control all the moving vehicles in Gotham. Can The Dynamic Duo save Gotham City from The Wizard’s evil plan? ***


This DVD collection includes three DVDs with all 15 chapters of each serial in pretty good quality when you think the oldest serial in this collection is 76 years old. The DVD menus are easy to access. There is no bonus features, but your getting over 13 hours of superhero action.
