Blu-ray Review: The Long Dark Trail

Kevin Igantius and Nick Psinakis’ new film ‘The Long Dark Trail’ has been a much sought after film. The film is an official selection for numerous prestige film festivals around the globe, including Weekend of Fear and The Festival De Cannes Blood Windoal Selection.

Now Cleopatra Entertainment and MVD Visual are giving horror movie fans a new movie to add to their collections as they are releasing The Long Dark Trail on DVD and Blu-ray on February 21, 2023.  

After two impoverished teenage brothers under the thumb of an abusive father fight back and escape. As they run away they hope to find and reunite with their mother.  As they embark on a dangerous journey to rural Pennsylvania, They soon find out her deep dark secret.

I have to say this is on of the most unique horror films I have seen in a very long time. It plays out just like a graphic novel, complete with chapter titles. The acting is decent for a low budget horror film. The cinematography is pretty impressive. Showcase the beautiful landscape of rural Pennsylvania. The soundtrack of this film is the true star. It really draws you into the story. 

I have to say that Kevin Igantius and Nick Psinakis wrote a screenplay that is a slow burn horror film. That truly uses the elements to build suspense to the climax of the film. I must say that suspense and horror film writers could take a lesson from this film.  

It is good to note that this film is very dark, dealing with many dark elements such as the occult, torture and child abuse. There is some very disturbing violent images and profanity in this film, so viewers should be aware of this before watching.

The film is transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in widescreen format and there are two audio options a Dolby Digital 5.1 and an LPCM 2.0. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. This transfer look crisp and the colors a bright. The audio is clean with no distortion. But a nice transfer is not all! There is some nice Blu-ray bonus features.
