Blast (1997) {Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed by Jason Lockard

It can be fun when films explore the "what if" possibilities! What if this went this way how would that have turned out? It give us different stories that we never thought of before! One such film is Blast. Now the good folks at MVD Visual and through the new label MVD Marquee Collection bring us Blast on Blu-ray!

The film follows a terrorist attempt to disrupt the Atlanta Olympics by kidnapping the U.S. women's swim team. If their demands are not met, the team will be executed. Their only hope for survival is a former Olympic gymnast champion of Tae Kwon Do, Jack Bryant, played by Liden Ashby. Jack is now a janitor after a career ending injury, does he have what it takes to take down the terrorist and save the team? Well, you'll have to watch the film to find out.

Thankfully this is just a "what if" story scenario! It never actually happened!

The acting in this movie is pretty good, the stand out to me was Rutger Hauer as the counter-terrorism expert Leo. Every single actor puts their all into their roles, and I can appreciate that! The direction of Albert Pyun is good.

The action is top notch! The story is gripping, but can be a bit slow in places. The special effects for late 90s are not bad! There is a pretty fair amount of profanity in the film. So those that are offended by that take note.

This Blu-ray release includes the film in picture 2:35:1 aspect ratio and audio 2.0 Stereo. The film looks and sounds magnificent! Also included on this Blu-ray release is the trailer for Blast as well as other MVD Marquee Collection releases; Lionheart, Walking Tall and Crazy Six.

So if your a fan of action, adventure films and this sounds like a movie in your wheelhouse. By all means get a copy before they are all gone! Head over to MVDShop.com today.
