James Cagney Collection (Warner Archive) Blu-ray Review – Must-Have for Classic Film Fans

James Cagney is a Hollywood Legend. During his illustrious career he starred in many unforgettable films. From gangster films to musicals. He even was nominated for 3 Academy Awards and took one home.

During his time at Warner Brothers he had many great performances and some of them have seen Blu-ray releases from Warner Archive Collection.

Now as part of their new Blu-ray line Warner Archive Collection have been releasing, James Cagney is getting his Blu-ray set. The James Cagney Collection 4 Movie Blu-ray set is now available for your Home Video Library.

The Public Enemy (1931)
Two young Chicago hoodlums, Tom Powers (James Cagney) and Matt Doyle (Eddie Woods), rise through the ranks of the Chicago underworld, even as a gangster's accidental death threatens to spark a bloody mob war. ***

Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) A priest Father Connolly (Pat O'Brien) tries to stop a gangster Rocky Sullivan (James Cagney) from corrupting a group of street kids.
 ***

Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)
The life of the renowned musical composer, playwright, actor, dancer, and singer George M. Cohan. ***

White Heat (1949)
 Gang leader Cody Jarrett (James Cagney) lives for his mother, makes a daring break from prison and leads his old gang in a chemical plant payroll heist. ***

These films have been restored and transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and are presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The audio tracks are English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Each of these films have their own dedicated Blu-ray discs. As with all Warner Archive Collection Blu-rays. You can be assured that the picture quality is the best possible you can find anywhere. 

Now this collection of Blu-rays have been previously released individually. If perchance you don't have these this 4disc collection is pretty impressive. There is quite a few bonus features found on each.

As you can see there are tons of bonuses on these discs. My personal favorite would have to be the Warner Night at the movies. Those are just too cool. Warner makes sure to put their best foot forward with their Blu-ray releases and this collection is no different.

If you are new to James Cagney or a longtime fan this 4-disc collection is some of the best of his performances collected together. I cannot recommend this set enough.
