In 1983, the world was treated to a film like we had never seen before. Of course, I am speaking of Blue Thunder. This film left a lasting impression on moviegoers. On January 6, 1984, a TV series adaptation of this movie debuted on ABC as a mid-season replacement.
Sadly, this series was very short-lived. It only lasted 11 episodes before it was canceled by ABC. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has decided to give physical media fans the chance to own this short-lived series on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: The Blue Thunder Unit of the Los Angeles Police Department operates a special helicopter, equipped with miraculous facilities including its being able to run almost noiselessly.
Blue Thunder was a fun little series with a great cast. The show was led by James Farentino, but included the hilarious Dana Carvey, Sandy McPeak and football legends, Bubba Smith and Dick Butkus. This series is a perfect mix of action and comedy. In my humble opinion the reason this series failed is because people tuned in to Airwolf instead.
All eleven episode of this series has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. There are two audio options there is an English 5.1 and a Spanish PCM 5.1. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Disc One: Second Thunder / A Clear And Present Danger / Arms Race / Revenge In The Sky-An F-86
Disc Two: Trojan Horse / Skydiver / Clipped Wings / Payload
Disc Three: The Long Flight / Godchild / The Island
These episodes are crisp and clean, and the audio is clear. I saw no digital artifacts or heard no audio anomalies. These episodes are in really nice quality. But the real disappointment here is that there are no bonus features on this set. 3 disc 11 episodes no bonuses. That is a shame.
If you love 80s action shows, Blue Thunder will be right up your alley. Even with the disappointing lack of bonus features, there is a lot of fun with these 11 episodes. So if you would like to add Blue Thunder: The Complete Series Blu-ray to your home video library. Head over to MovieZyng or Amazon and order your copy today.
Out of 4 TV Sets (4 being the best) the Blu-ray of Blue Thunder receives....
