Cradle of Fear: Blu-ray Review

When I think of killer thrillers I think of Psycho, Silence of the Lambs or Seven. These thrillers take us on a ride we don't mind going on from the comfort of our couch, but by no means want to experience in real life.

In 2001 Alex Chandon wrote and directed a direct-to-video killer thriller entitled Cradle of Fear. Inspired by 70s anthology films, Alex's film breaks in four segments.  It is hard to even imagine but this film is 25 years old. So for this epic anniversary, Unearthed Films has released this film on Blu-ray.

Synopsis: Notorious child murderer Kemper is hellbent on exacting his revenge on the people who put him away, and from his padded room in the local asylum, he commands 'The Man' to slaughter the families of those responsible. Detective Nielson, who'd had his own unpleasant run-in with Kemper, is faced with an increasingly large pile of mutilated bodies and tries to make some sense of the savagery.

Cradle of Fear has great effects, but it lacks suspense. You know what is happening to each victim so there is no investment in the characters. Plus the run time of 2 hours is a bit much and for this reviewer felt like the film dragged on. For people who love gory horror, this film will be spectacular fun.

Unearthed Films has transferred Cradle of Fear to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.66:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English PCM 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The film's transfer is good. There is no signs of digital artifacts or audio anomolies. Like with all Unearthed Films Blu-rays they included a good amount of bonus features. Andfor this release they went above and beyond. They added two discs to this release with tons of bonuses.

Bonus Materials:

DISC ONE – FEATURE & EXTRAS

As you can see Unearthed Films really went all out for this release. They imported the making of featurette for the German DVD and the short films of Alex Chandon. Fans of gory horror will find this feature a must add to their collection. But it is just for those kind of film fans. As the casual fans will be titaly grossed out.
