Visual Vengeance Saurians (1994) Blu-ray Review | Obscure Dinosaur Horror Unearthed

In 1993, the world of sci-fi action genre was forever changed with Steven Spielberg's film Jurassic Park. As soon as that film debuted, filmmakers clamored to make their own dinosaur movies. Low-budget film makers, The Polonia brothers, decided to jump on the bandwagon and release their film Saurians just one year later in 1994.

There are so many of these low-budget films that normally would never see a home video release in this generation. But enter Visual Vengeance! They have been giving these campy, low-budget films a chance to live forever on super deluxe Blu-rays. And Saurians is the next film to see a release.

Synopsis: When a routine construction blast shakes their sleepy town, a group of locals discover that the explosion has awakened two dinosaurs from a centuries-long slumber, who soon run amok in the local woods on a rampage of terror.

Director Mark Polonia, (Splatter Farm and Feeders) brings his dinosaur feature to life. The film features everything you would expect from the campy sci-fi films of the 90s. The shaky camera work, bad puppetry, stop motion animation and the horrible acting. Plus, apparently, this film was shot without audio and then dubbed in later. This makes for a very strange viewing experience.

No one goes into this kind of film thinking they are going to see Jurassic Park. Saurians is a film you sit down with a bunch of friends, some food, and drinks, and just have a good laugh at the bad effects and acting. You can have your own Mystery Science Theater 3000 party with your crew.

Visual Vengeance has produced a new director-approved SD master from original tape elements. Saurians has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Okay, there is no denying that the quality is not the best in the world. But if you look at this Blu-ray release in comparison to anything you're going to find online, this is definitely an upgrade. Pls with this release, you get tons of bonus features.

As you can see, Visual Vengeance never disappoints in putting so much bonus material on their releases. Commentaries, interviews, and a bonus film. But I love the artwork. Let's be honest here, the artwork is better than the film. But the thing that I found the absolute best standout bonus feature would have to be that Visual Vengeance added a piece of the Super 8 film. That is too cool.

If you love campy sci-fi from the 1990s, complete with horrible effects and acting, well, you have to check out Saurians. The film is not good, but this Blu-ray release is. The bonuses make up for how bad this film truly is. If you would like to add Saurians to your home video library, head over to MVD Shop or Amazon and order your copy today.

Out of 4 film reels (4 being the best) the Blu-ray of Saurains receives.....
