Music is pretty much a part of everyone's life. Who hasn't owned a record, tape, CD or MP3 of their favorite song? But there are people who collect songs. This is the premise of the film The History of Sound.
Now Mubi has released this film The History of Sound on Blu-ray. Fans of romantic dramas can own this film on physical media. Forget about streaming the film. Instead, support physical media.
Synopsis: Two young music students, Lionel and David, attending the Boston Conservatory in 1917, bond over their shared love of folk music. They reconnect a few years later, embarking on a song collecting trip in the backwaters of Maine.
Okay, there is no doubt that there is a romantic element in this film, but to me it is not the focal point. The main focus is the music, as it should be. I enjoyed the journey of collecting music. But the story seemed a bit slow in pacing, which made the film seem longer than it was.
The History of Sound has been transferred to Blu-Ray in 1080p and presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0. There are also subtitles in English, French, English SDH and French Forced.
The Blu-ray transfer is good. There is no signs of digital artifacts or audio anomalies. But there are no bonus features on this disc. That is a huge disappointment. There is no interviews, audio commentary or even a trailer.
Understandably, this film is not going to be for everyone. But for those who enjoy this type of film, it will be a nice watch. But in all honesty, the Blu-ray is a bit lackluster with no bonus features.
