You Won’t Believe How GOOD Innerspace Looks in 4K! (Arrow Video Review)

In the 1980s, director Joe Dante brought to theaters some fun features that over the years have become classics and cult classics. These films include The Howling (1981), Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983), Gremlins (1983), Explorers (1985), Innerspace (1987), Amazon Women on the Moon (1987) and The Burbs (1989).

Arrow Video has now chosen to take one of these 80s Joe Dante films and restore and release it on deluxe 4k UltraHD. Of course, we are talking about the ultra fun sci-fi adventure, directed by Joe Dante and produced by the great Steven Spielberg (Poltergeist, Back to the Future) Innerspace.

Synopsis: Maverick pilot Tuck Pendleton (Dennis Quaid) is about to make history as part of a scientific experiment to be miniaturized and injected into the body of a rabbit... but when rogue scientists steal the new technology, he finds himself injected into hypochondriac grocery clerk Jack Putter (Martin Short) instead. Together with ace reporter Lydia Maxwell (Meg Ryan), Jack must find the stolen tech that will get Tuck back to regular size and out of his body - before the bad guys extract him by force!

Innerspace features Dante's genre mash-up of action and comedy, making a fun entertaining film. Martin Short is hilarious, as always and Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan are great foils to his off-the-wall antics. The special effects are out of this world. Even after almost 40 years Innerspace still entertains. It truly is a timeless piece of cinema.

Arrow Video has transferred Innerspace to 4K in 2160p and presented in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible). The audio tracks are a newly restored original lossless 2.0 stereo, original 70mm 6-track mix in DTS-HD MA 4.1 surround and newly remixed Dolby Atmos audio. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This 4K transfer comes from a brand new restoration from the original 35mm negative by Arrow Films, approved by director Joe Dante. When I screened this new 4K, I must say I was thoroughly impressed. The colors are bright and vibrant and the skin tones are correct. The picture is crisp and clean and there is no signs of damage to the print. Innerspace looks remarkable in 4K!

In addition to a wonderful 4K restoration Arrow Video added a good amount of bonus features on this release. Making this a must own for 80s scifi film fans. Take a look at what is included.
