Black Bag 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Review – High-Stakes Espionage in Stunning Detail

Directed by Steven Soderbergh | Screenplay by: David Koepp | Starring Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, Pierce Brosnan, and Gustaf Skarsgård

Steven Soderbergh is an imaginative writer and director. His vision for film experiences really takes audiences on a wonderful ride. We have seen such amazing 4K UltraHD releases as Contagion, The Good German and The Informant.

Steven's latest film is Black Bag. Physical media fans have been waiting and anticipating when this release would be available on home video. Well, wonder no more. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment have released a 2-disc 4K UltraHD and Blu-ray.

Synopsis: When Kathryn intelligence agent played by Cate Blanchett is suspected of betraying the nation, her husband George (Micheal Fassbender) - also a legendary agent - faces the ultimate test of whether to be loyal to his marriage, or his country.

Soderbergh brings this gripping crime thriller to life, with wonderful performances by Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth), Michael Fassbender (X-Men) and Pierce Brosnan (James Bond 007) among others. This is a slow burn kind of spy thriller. If you are expecting a lot of non-stop action, you are going to be bored out of your skull with this release. This is an intellectual thriller. So be aware going into this one.

Universal Home Entertainment has transferred Black Bag to 4K in 2160p and is presented in a HDR10 format, 2.39:1 aspect ratio. There are several audio options, there are English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and an English Dolby Digital 2.0. There are also Spanish and French dubs in Dolby Digital 5.1. As for subtitles, there are English Spanish and French.

Now when looking at this transfer There is no denying that the picture has a stunning clarity to it. The colors rich vibrant. This film really does benefit from the UltraHD transfer. The film even looks spectacular on the Blu-ray release that is included on this set. I love that Universal included both 4k and Blu-ray discs. That way if you haven't made the leap to 4k just yet you can still enjoy this film until you do make that finally leap.

For the special bonus features Universal Pictures has
gone a bit skimpy with this release. disappoints on the supplementals for this release. All that is included is two small featurettes and some deleted scenes. Very disappointing.

Even with the lack of bonus features this is a nice-looking home video release. And there is a cool bonus of the digital copy of the film. The digital code can be redeemed on Movies Anywhere. This is a nice bonus!

Whether you're a fan of gritty espionage thrillers, razor-sharp cinematography, or top-tier home theater experiences, this 4K UHD release is a must-own. Especially if you are a fan of Steven Soderbergh cinema. To purchase a copy of the 4K/Blu-ray of Black Bag for your home video library head over to Amazon and order your copy today!
