Quackser Fortune Has A Cousin In The Bronx (1970) Blu-ray Review

Gene Wilder has given the world so much joy and laughter. He brought us wonderful performances in Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Silver Streak, Stir Crazy and The Frisco Kid. But just after his performance in Mel Brooks' The Producers in 1970 he starred in the comedy Quackser Fortune Has A Cousin In The Bronx.

Now for the 55th anniversary of this film release VCI Entertainment and MVD Visual have given this Gene Wilder comedy a Blu-ray release. This is the first time Quackser Fortune Has A Cousin In The Bronx has been released on Blu-ray.

Synopsis: Reminiscent of 'Harold & Maude' and 'Start the Revolution Without Me,' this gentle comedy is the story of a man out of step with this world, marching to the beat of his own drum. Quackser Fortune (Gene Wilder) earns his living by following the horse-drawn delivery wagons of Dublin, scooping up the droppings and selling it as fertilizer. Margot Kidder (Superman) is the American exchange student who finds herself drawn to this unlearned, but not unknowing man.

This film was directed by Waris Hussein now you may not know that name, but fans of classic sci-fi tv will know his work. He directed The Unearthly Child, the first serial of the classic Doctor Who.

This is a funny offbeat love story. Gene Wilder is amazing as the quirky Quackser and Margot Kidder is sweet as the American student. The film is beautifully written with just the right amount of comedy to keep the film light and bouncy.

The film has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.33:1. The audio is an English Dolby Digital 2.0 and there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This Blu-ray transfer is taken from a 4k scan of the camera negative and looks really crisp and sharp. The colors are vibrant. This is a great upgrade from anything you'll see on DVD or streaming.

In addition to a nice Blu-ray transfer, the Blu-ray has some very cool bonus features included. take a look at what is loaded on this Blu-ray disc.

* Audio Commentary track by Robert Kelly, artist, reviewer and film buff extraordinaire!
* Trailers
   - Restored Original Theatrical Trailer
   - The Night Visitor
   - The Bird with the Crystal Plumage

Robert Kelly's audio commentary really is an insightful and informative listen. The restored trailer is also a nice bonus. It would have been nice to see some more bonus features included. That would have take this really nice Blu-ray to and even cooler level. But that is a very minor complaint.

If you love the films of Gene Wilder as much as I do. Well, this new Blu-ray release of
Quackser Fortune Has A Cousin In The Bronx would make a great addition to your Blu-ray library. Head over to MVD Shop or Amazon and order your copy of this release today.
