Icons Unearthed Marvel (Mill Creek Entertainment Blu-ray Review)

Icons Unearthed is a Vice TV documentary series that takes deep dives into some of the best franchises in cinema and TV history. Mill Creek Entertainment have been releasing this series on Blu-ray. We have seen the first three on Blu-ray. Star Wars, The Simpsons, Fast and the Furious.

Now it is time for the next in the Icon Unearthed series to receive the Blu-ray treatment. This time it is one of the most profitable and fun franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Featuring some of the greatest superheroes ever created, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man and many more.

Synopsis: The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the most successful franchise of all time, and it has changed the way movies are made. Taking a cue from their comic book source material, these films tell different characters’ stories that all take place in one massive, interwoven universe. Each film would introduce one key protagonist, building toward the release of one giant blockbuster, The Avengers, that would put them all together. If a single one of those films failed at the box office, it could derail what may be the biggest gamble ever taken in the history of cinema. How did Marvel pull it off?

There was a time when there was no more popular franchise than that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel movies are still popular, with oversaturation of superhero shows and movies, there is no doubt that the world is suffering from superhero fatigue.

This eight-part Vice TV series follows Marvel from the humble beginnings to the early years of Marvel films. That started with the amazing Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. to the film with groundbreaking visual effects Ant-Man. These episodes featuring great interviews with people who know the Marvel Universe well! It is a tremendous documentary series.

All eight episodes have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p they are presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

On this 3-disc Blu-ray set the episodes look and sound crisp and clean. There is no digital artifacts and no audio anomalies. These episodes look stunning.

Now while this documentary series is an Unofficial and Unauthorized series it is still an amazing series. I am always impressed with quality of this series. And Mill Creek Entertainment goes above and beyond, by not only giving us the entire series, but full-length interviews on a bonus disc, too cool!

With almost 12 hours of content included on this Blu-ray set, you really cannot go wrong with purchasing this Blu-ray for your collection. I am proud to add this to my Marvel Blu-ray shelf. It will make a wonderful release to rewatch over and over again.
