Cursed in Baja Blu-ray Review

Jeff Daniel Phillips, you may not know the name, but you will recognize the man. First off, he played the part of Maurice in the short-lived Cavemen sitcom on ABC. He also played uncle Seymour in Rob Zombie's Halloween II as Uncle Seymour. And most memorable (at least to me) Herman Munster in Rob Zombie's classic TV show remake.

Now Jeff has stepped behind the camera as well to direct the film Cursed in Baja. As part of the new partnership with Anchor Bay Entertainment and MVD Visual now Cursed in Baja is coming to home video on Blu-ray and DVD.

Synopsis: Pirelli (Jeff Daniel Phillips), an ex-lawman, travels to Mexico searching for the heir to a Los Angeles fortune, while confronting his own complicated past. But what he finds in Baja challenges him to the core.

There is a lot going on in this film and yet the story doesn't have a lot going on in it. Perhaps that's why the film keeps the viewer's interest. This film really belongs in the psychedelic 70s. The film is crazy, off-the-wall and some people are going to love this film, while others maybe not so much. It really is a trip.

Jeff Daniel Phillips does a great job in front and behind the camera. I have to say it is a breath of fresh air to see something unique as the opposed to the regular ordinary films, with the same style storylines just different actors and titles.

Cursed in Baja has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in widescreen format the audio is a Dolby Digital 5.1. There are also options for subtitles in English and Spanish.

I must say that the film transfer is really beautiful. It is crisp and clean with no signs of digital artifacts or anomalies of any kind. Then there are the bonus features that have been added for this release.

* Commentary with Writer / Director / Lead Jeff Daniel Phillips

* Cursed in Baja: The Making Of

I appreciate the addition of the audio commentary and the making of featurette. But I kind of wished there was a bit more bonus features, like we saw with the Blu-ray release of Crust

Cursed in Baja is quite the cinematic ride, though I must be honest it will not be a film for everyone. Even though it is listed as a horror film it is more of a crime thriller in my humble opinion.

If you are enjoying the new films from the newly revived Anchor Bay Entertainment, and if you love weird cinema Cursed in Baja will be right up your alley. Head over to MVDShop or Amazon and order your copy today.

Out of 4 Film Reels (4 being the best) the Blu-ray of Cursed in Baja recieves.....
