The Lady From Shanghai (1947) 4k UltraHD Review

Orson Wells was a iconic actor, producer, writer and director. He is responsible for some of the greatest films in cinema history. I'm taking Touch of Evil, The Magnificent Ambersons, The Stranger, and the film that many believe is the greatest film in history Citizen Kane.

In 1947 Orson wrote the screenplay, produced and directed the amazing film noir The Lady From Shanghai starring the great Rita Hayworth. Now as we are coming upon the 77 year anniversary of the film's theatrical release. Sony Home Entertainment are releasing this classic on 4k UltraHD!

Synopsis: Hired to work on a yacht owned by the husband of femme fatale Elsa Bannister (Rita Hayworth), Michael O'Hara (Welles) is an innocent man drawn into a dangerous web of intrigue. THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI is now considered vintage Welles, with his famous hall-of-mirrors climax hailed as one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history.

Orson Wells was a master of the film noir. Very few could equal his creative eye for use of shadows and camera work to build intense drama. That is why his films are considered masterpieces of cinema. And The Lady from Shanghai is no different. Rita Hayworth is stunning in this film and the entire cast is just a perfect mix.

The Lady From Shanghai probably does not top anyone's list of favorite film noirs, but it should be a lot higher on everyone's list. I personally consider it that great of a film noir. 

This classic film noir had been transferred to 4K UltraHD in 2160p and is presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. There are three audio options English, French and Spanish Mono DTS-HD Master Audio. There is also the option for subtitles in English, French and Spanish.

Now this 4K Transfer is not just any transfer the film has been restored from the original camera negative and presented in 4K resolution with Dolby Vision. And what a gorgeous looking 4K restoration this is. The clarity and the crispness of the picture really brings new life to this film. I have seen this film on other release, not to disparage them, but this release puts everything else to shame.
