The Keepers of the 5 Kingdoms (2024) DVD Review

To Find good family entertainment in this day and age can be very difficult. Especially if you are looking elsewhere than the animation destination. Most of the time live action films have violence, adult language and sexual innuendos.

So Vision Films have released a comedy/adventure film for the entire family. That film is The Keepers of the 5 Kingdoms and it features Star Trek's George Takei. Talk about a selling point. At least for fans of Star Trek.

Synopsis: When Patsy Lee discovers an ancient relic box, she has no idea that it will transport her, her grandfather, and her friends to a mystical world of vampires, goblin witches, talking turtles, and an evil sorceress who will stop at nothing to get the box. Their only chance of returning home is to stop her before she finds the key to the 5 Kingdoms and destroys the entire world.

For a lower budget magical family adventure, it's not that bad at all. The acting is believable, the story is captivating. The special effect are nice for a smaller budget film. If you enjoyed 80s films like The Goonies and Labyrinth this film has a similar vibe to it. It is an 80s retro movie.

Along with George Takei there are other familiar faces you will see in this film, including James Hong (Big Trouble in Little China), Bai Ling (Star Wars Revenge of the Sith), Geddes Watanabe (Sixteen Candles).

The Keepers of the 5 Kingdoms have been transferred to Made-On-Demand DVD in widescreen format. There are two audio options an English Stereo and an English 5.1 track. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This DVD transfer is a extremely clean one. The picture is crisp. The colors are bright and vibrant and the audio is clear with no distortion. There is no digital artifacts present in this transfer that I witnessed.

Now as for bonus features. It is a bit on the skimpy side here. But we do get the trailer. For me I will take the trailer over no bonus features at all. But in addition to the skimpy bonus features there is the fact that it his is a burned disc instead of a pressed one. I much prefer pressed discs as they have a longer shelf life.

If you love magical adventures and want to share your love of those adventures with some younger fans, You could find a lot worse adventure than The Keepers of the 5 Kingdoms. So if you would like to own a copy of this DVD release head over to MovieZyng and order your copy today!
