Scooby Doo on Zombie Island Double Feature: Blu-ray Review

As kids growing up we probably all watched the adventures of Scooby Doo and the gang. I know I remember watching them on reruns. And even as I have grown into my adult years I still enjoy rewatching those classic episodes even to this day.

Well, in the 1990s Scooby Doo had gained a whole new audience because of reruns on Cartoon Network. So, in 1998 Time Warner decided to produce a direct to home video release of Scooby Doo on Zombie Island. Its hard to believe but it woukd take over 20 years for this film to recieve the sequel.

Now the good folks at Warner Archive Collection have decided to give Scooby fans a chance to have these fan favorites on Blu-ray! Let's take a deeper look at these two Scooby Doo Films.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Scooby Doo on Zombie Island (1998) The Mystery Gang reunite and visit Moonscar Island, a remote island with a dark secret. Daphne wants more than just a villain in a costume, and they get more than they ever expected. ***

Scooby Doo Return to Zombie Island (2019) The gang is pulled out of retirement to investigate a mystery on a familiar zombie-infested island. **

Scooby Doo on Zombie Island is a tremendous little release. It really has the nostaglia of the classic Scooby Doo shows. The sequel is a fun film too, but seems to have a bit less of the magic of the first film. But still a good little fun adventure.

These two films feature the voices of such amazing actors as Scott Innes, Billy West, Mark Kay Bergman, Frank Welker, Matthew Lillard, Adrienne Barbeau, Cassandra Peterson, and Mark Hamill.

I love the animation of these two films. We are in a time when animated movies and TV shows are all about the computer animation. To me this type of animation is just bad (Look at Rugrats reboot). I am glad this is more of the classic animation.

Warner Archive has transferred these two films to Blu-ray in 1080p. Scooby Doo on Zombie Island is presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio and the audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. While Scooby Doo Return to Zombie Island is presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio and the audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Both films have the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

These two films look and sound amazing. The picture is crisp, and the colors are vibrant, and the audio is clear. Simply amazing transfers. Now as for bonus features. There are just the trailers for each film. Not as much bonus features as I may have liked, but it's okay.

If you enjoy the New Scooby Doo Movies. The shows that featured guest stars like Johnathan Winters, The Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy, The Addams Family, The Harlem Globetrotters, Don Knotts and more, you will probably enjoy these two releases. I was amazed at how these two movies kind of have that same kind of spirit to it.

Scooby Doo on Zombie Island is highly recommended viewing. And the sequel is not a bad watch either. This would make a nice double feature micie night!
