The Warriors (1979) 4k UltraHD Review

Walter Hill is an amazing writer and director. He has been directing films since the 1970s. And at the time of this writing at the age of 84 he is still directing films. He is probably best known for his films 48 Hrs. and Another 48 Hrs.

But near the beginning of his career, he directed the bare-knuckle boxing movie Hard Times and the crime thriller The Driver. After the success of those two films, he delivered to the world an action film that was ahead of its time with 1979s The Warriors.

The Warriors over the years have become a cult classic, and Arrow Video the physical media king of cult films are now giving The Warriors a Deluxe 4K UltraHD release.

In New York the gangs outnumber the cops by 5-1. Together, they could rule the city. Gang-leader Cyrus has a dream to do just that and calls a summit. The gangs of New York gather in their thousands, Cyrus takes the stage. From somewhere in the crowd a shot rings out and Cyrus falls down dead. In the chaos that follows, a small gang from Coney Island – the Warriors – are blamed. Now everyone is out to get them. On foot, in enemy territory, can they make it through the night to get back across the city to the safety of home turf?

The Warriors is a raw, gritty and real look at gangs and gang violence. The film is at time a pulse pounding action film, it is a product of a different time. Now there is a lot of violence and profanity. But there is some wording in this film that in this generation some viewers will find extremely offensive, so viewer discretion is advised.

The film is presented in 20160p 4K UltraHD with the film's aspect ratio is 1.85:1. For the audio there are two options, the original uncompressed mono, plus stereo 2.0 and Dolby Atmos audio options. Finally, there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Arrow Video
supervised by a new 4K remaster of both the Theatrical Cut and the 2005 Alternate Version and was approved by director Walter Hill. This new 4K remaster is sourced from the original camera negative.

This new 4K remaster is really something special. The colors are bright and vibrant. The picture quality is simply stunning. The Warriors look and sound crisp and clear. If you love this film or if you want to experience it for the first time, this is the prefect way to do it!
