He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Complete Series

In the 1980s there were tons of great cartoons series. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Voltron, Thundercats and of course He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Because of the popularity of these series there have been remakes. In 2021 Netflix and Rob David reimagined the adventures of He-Man for a new generation.

On Eternia, the first planet of creation, a demonic tyrant rises: Skeletor! With dark armies at his command, Skeletor is on the march, obsessed with capturing Eternia’s Kingdoms, and its ultimate prize: Castle Grayskull, the ancient fortress of mystery said to contain the greatest power in the universe. It’s up to He-Man and his brave squad of rookie heroes to stop Skeletor and restore peace! Both sides come armed with Enchanted Power Weapons—transforming them into Masters of the Primal Powers of the Universe. It’s Master vs. Dark Master, He-Man vs. Skeletor — fighting for control of Eternia, Castle Grayskull and the fate of us all.

While the original series had great tech it had a real primitive feel to it. The tech found in this series has a more futuristic feel to it. And that it pretty cool! Another thing this series has going for it in comparison to the original series. The 1980s series was always cookie cutter. It can feel like the stories talked down to kids, where this series' stories feature real peril!

Now for the downside. I do love the Filmation animation of the original series, the CGI animation has never been my favorite. And the other thing is when Prince Adam transforms into He-Man, our favorite hero's head looks too small for his body. Than there is Ram Ma'am, Orko is an android and Man at Arms is the same age as He-Man. This isn't really a complaint, as I understand is a retelling of the adventures! So, there need to be some changes and I guess that's okay, it just can be hard to see when you are used to the original.

Mill Creek Entertainment has transferred all three season 26 episodes on 4 DVD discs. The episodes have been transferred in widescreen format. The audio is a Dolby Digital 2.0. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Disc One
: The Sword of Grayskull / The Power of Grayskull / The Heirs of Grayskull / The Champions of Grayskull / We Have the Power

Disc Two
: Orko the Great / He-Man, the Hunted / The Calm Before the Storm / Cry Havoc, Part 1 / Cry Havoc, Part 2

Disc Three
: The World Above / The World Below / Eternia 2000 / A Very Hungry Dragonfly / Meanwhile... / Divided We Stand / The Battle of Avion / The Fifth Nemesis

Disc Four

The episodes run around 23 minutes a piece. So Mill Creek didn't cram a huge amount of episodes on a disc. Thus, these episodes are crisp and clean with no digital artifacts. The colors are bright and vibrant! Extremely nice looking transfers here.

In addition to He-Man this series has all your favorite characters, Sorceress, Teela-Na, Battle Cat, Man-at-Arms, Skeletor, Trap Jaw, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man, King Randor, Tri-Klops, Mer-Man, Hordak and Orko the Great.

The voice acting is great and there will be a lot of familiar voices when watching this series. You will hear the voice talents of Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants), Bobcat Goldthwait (Police Academy), Dee Bradley Baker (Airbender: The Last Airbender), Kevin Smith (Jay and Silent Bob), George Takei (Star Trek the Original Series), Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride) and Kevin Conroy (Batman the Animated Series).

I think this series is an exciting and wonderful take on the He-Man Mythos. If you are a He-Man purist. This is really not going to be for you as there is just too many differences. But if you are looking for a fun adventure series that is out of this world, try He-Man and the Masters of the Universe on DVD from Mill Creek Entertainment.

If you this He-Man and the Masters of the Universe this new 4-disc DVD set from Mill Creek Entertainment sounds like a series, you would like to own head over to Deep Discount or Amazon and order your copy today.
