Glenn Ford starred in many great films over his career. Dramas, comedies, Holiday features like one of my favorites A Pocketful of Miracles. Warner Archive has recently released a Glenn Ford Classic on Blu-ray. That film was The Courtship of Eddie's Father.
Now it is time for another Glenn Ford Films to arrive on Blu-ray thanks to Warner Archive. This time a western, but not get any western. One of Glenn Ford's best westerns, 1956s The Fastest Gun Alive.
George Temple (Glenn Ford, Gilda) is a former gunman who has given up his gunslinging ways, but it is hard to escape his legendary past. So, he and his wife Dora (Jeanne Crain, State Fair) move to a new town in the hopes of finally finding a normal and peaceful life. But one night when George gets drunk and spills the beans, can he and Dora trust the townsfolks to keep their secret?
Glenn Ford is spectacular, and Jeanne Crain is great as his loving wife. But the supporting cast is just as phenomenal as they are. The cast includes, Allyn Joslyn (Dangerous Blondes), Leif Erickson (Terror in the Sky), John Doucette (The Last of the Mohicans), Rhys Williams (The Corn is Green), Virginia Gregg (No Way Back), Louis Jean Heydt (Roadblock) and Russ Tamblyn (Little Miss Magic). The screenplay is filled with heart. And running a mere 89 minutes, the film is a fast-paced film that will keep you invested to the very end.
The Warner Archive has transferred this classic western to Blu-ray in 1080p. It features a brand new 4K scan of the original camera negative. The film is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
This new 4K scan is so stunningly gorgeous it is hard to put into words. I have seen this film before, but watching it now is truly like seeing it for the first time. The term "in glorious black and white" applies here. But a gorgeous 4K scan is not all that is included here. Warner Archive added some cool bonus features. Look at what is included.
