The Courtship of Eddie's Father (1963) Warner Archive Blu-ray Review

The Courtship of Eddie's Father Blu-ray Cover artwork
Glenn Ford is probably best known for his time he spent in the old west, with such films as The Fastest Gun Alive, 310 to Yuma, The Sheepman, The Violent Men, and Jubal just to name a few. But he was more than just a western star he starred in dramas like Black board Jungle, film noirs like Gilda and one of my favorite Christmas musicals Pocketful of Miracles.

In 1963 Glenn Ford would star alongside a child actor who would eventually turn into of the best film directors. Yes we are talking about little Ronny Howard. The film was entitled The Courtship of Eddie's Father and now the good folk at Warner Archive Collection are releasing this romantic comedy on Blu-ray and I couldn't be happier.

After some time without a mother Eddie Corbett (Ronny Howard) thinks it is time for his father Tom (Glenn Ford) to remarry. However, all the ladies his father is seeing don't seem to be right, in Eddie's opinion. Eddie believes the best choice maybe closer that his father realizes. Elizabeth Marten (Shirley Jones) litteraly the girl next door.

Glen Ford really spreads his wings here being more than the tough guy cowboy to be the loving father and is spectacular. Ronny Howard is just a few years removed from bursting on America's TV screens as Opie Taylor in the Andy Griffith Show and brings his youthful charm to this role. Along with these two are the amazing talents of the lovely ladies,
Shirley Jones, Dina Merrill, and Stella Stevens. Also look out for one of my favorites TV's Coach Luther Van Dam Jerry Van Dyke.

Now in addition to a cute screenplay and great acting we get the expert direction of acclaimed
director Vincente Minnelli (Father of the Bride, Gigi). He brings his unique flair for filmmaking to The Courtship of Eddie's Father. When watching a Minnelli film there is no doubt your watching one! His style is that recognizable.

Warner Archive has transferred this classic film The Courtship Of Eddie’s Father to Blu-ray in  1080p in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD 2.0 Master Audio. This transfer is sourced from a 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Glenn Ford Warner Archive The Courtship of Eddie's Father

Warner Archive never ceases to amazes me with their Blu-ray release, and The Courtship of Eddie's Father is no different. The new 4K scan of this film is stunning. The colors are simply gorgeous and the picture is crisp with no signs of damage to this print. The audio is clean with no signs of pop or hiss. The film has never looks better than it does now!

But a
simply amazing 4K scan of this classic is not all that is included on this Blu-ray. No Way! Warner Archive added some very cool bonus features that I call a must to check out!

* Audio Commentary featuring the trio of lovely ladies Shirley Jones, Dina Merrill and Stella Stevens. When listening to this commentary they share their thoughts on the film working with Glenn Ford, Ronny Howard and Vincente Minnelli. This is such a great commentary. It is
 a must listen!

* Penthouse Mouse (1963): the inaugural Tom and Jerry short produced by Chuck Jones after being fired from Warner Bros. Cartoons.

* Theatrical Trailer

I love seeing The Courtship of Eddie's Father looking this spectacular, but the bonuses of a tremendous commentary and classic cartoon and trailer, take a great release to even bigger highest! I can not recommend this Blu-ray release enough it is that good.

So if you love good family entertainment, The Courtship of Eddie's Father is one film you need to see if you haven't already! And even if you have seen it, this new Blu-ray release from Warner Archive the perfect way to experience
it all over again. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today. Your going to love it!
