The 1970s in America was a time of loss. We lost music legends Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. There was a The Watergate Scandal in which President Nixon would have no choice but to resign.
But the 70s wasn't all bad. In sports Pittsburgh Steelers running back Franco Harris makes the "immaculate reception" to help the Steelers beat the Oakland Raiders in the AFC Divisional Game. For classic gamers the 70s was the greatest as the Atari 2600 is released.
But for cinephiles the best part was the movies. We saw classics like The Godfather, Jaws, Superman, and Star Wars. The 70s were highlighted by The actors and actresses some found in this DVD set are, Barbra Streisand, Jack Nicholson, Sean Connery, Sidney Poitier, Goldie Hawn, Jane Fonda, George Segal, Omar Sharif and Albert Finney.
Now the fine folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have released a DVD set entitled Through the Decades 1970s. This 4 disc set features 11 swinging sixties flicks. Let's take a look at what is included in this set.

The Horsemen (1971) - Drama depicting rural life in contemporary Afghanistan and the Afghani people's love for an ancient traditional sport similar to horseback polo. ***
Gumshoe (1971) - Nightclub comedian Eddie Ginley puts an ad in the paper as a private eye. The case he gets turns out to be a strange setup and as he digs to the bottom of it his life starts falling apart. ***
The Last Detail (1973) - Two Navy men are ordered to bring a young offender to prison, but decide to show him one last good time along the way. ***
The Stone Killer (1973) - A top New York detective is sent to Los Angeles where he must solve a case involving an old Sicilian Mafia family feud. ***
For Pete’s Sake (1974) - A housewife tries to finance her cab-driving husband's education. ***
Fun With Dick and Jane (1977) - When an upwardly mobile couple find themselves unemployed and in debt, they turn to armed robbery in desperation. ***
Just like the previous release Through The Decades The 1960s, this too is a tremendous collection of movies. This collection has something for everyone. There is drama and comedy, crime thrillers, war, historical adventures. This is exactly what you are looking for from a decades collection.
Most of these film are for adult audiences. The films are filled with adult situations and language. There are some really good 70s films. But there is one film today that stands out to me. Being that sadly the great Sidney Poitier, the inclusion of his film 'Brother John' makes this collection a must own.
The films look and sound truly amazing on these DVD discs. The 11 films included in this set are spread across 4 DVD discs. That is three movies per disc expect for one that has two movies, "The Owl and the pussycat" and "For Pete's Sake".
