Doris Day was a gifted singer, animal lover, kind human being and a very accomplished actress. She starred in many amazing films over her career including being directed by the great Alfred Hitchcock.

In early 2021 the good folks at Warner Archive release a Doris Day musical on Blu-ray The Pajama Game. You can read the review of that release here. It has been a little while since we have seen another Doris Day release, but the wait is over. Now it is time for another great Blu-ray featuring Doris Day. This time is is 1951's Lullaby of Broadway.

Melinda Howard (Doris Day) is an energetic entertainer who returns New York from England to surprise her Broadway star mother. Little does Melinda know that her mother's career has hit the rocks because of an alcohol addiction. Now she can only find work in dive bars. While trying to help her mom, she meets and falls for Tom Farnham (Gene Nelson).

Lullaby of Broadway is defiantly one of the best early Doris Day musicals. Filled with amazing music and dance numbers. It truly is a snapshot of a simpler and sweeter time than we live now. Gene Nelson is a perfect complement to the talents of Doris Day. Also in this film we find S.Z. Sakall, Billy De Wolfe, Gladys George and Florence Bates.

The film is presented in 1080s in it's original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.37:1. The audio mix is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. This Technicolor musical looks amazing on Blu-ray. There is no signs of damage to this print. The picture is sharp and the audio of clear. It truly is a remarkable transfer.

Now as for bonus features on this Blu-ray there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing and the theatrical trailer. Maybe a little skimpy on the bonus features. But the stunning looking copy of this film makes this release a must own.
