The Pajama Game (Blu-ray Review)

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff better know by her screen name Doris Day was an amazing singer and actress. But she was an even better human being. She starred in many great films over her career. On such film was The Pajama Game.

The film is being released on Blu-ray from Warner Archive Collection. It is so good to see this musical get the HD release it so richly deserves. Let's take a look at what is included in the Blu-ray release.

The film follows Sid Sorokin (John Raitt) who has been hired as the superintendent of the Sleeptide Pajama Factory in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is hired to oppose the worker's demand for a pay raise. Little did he know he would fall in love with Katherine "Babe" William (Doris Day), a worker in the factory and member of the employee union's leadership.

This 1957 film is based on the 1954 stage musical that was based on the 1953 novel 7½ Cents by Richard Pike Bissell. What an amazing musical this one truly is. Doris Day shines in everything she does and this film is no different. You really find yourself rooting for her. The story is great and the music is such a great accent to the story. It is just a great film.

The film is presented in it's original widescreen format in 1.85:1 aspect ratio in a 1080p and in
DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. The picture is sharp and the colors are brilliant and the audio even though it is mono is crisp with no distortion. This is a tremendous upgrade from the DVD release. But Warner Archive Collection didn't stop their. They added some really cool special features. Take a look!

Special Features:

* Deleted Song: Doris Day sings “The Man Who Invented Love” written by Richard Adler.

* Theatrical Trailer

* Song Selection: This is a menu select that allows you to jump to any of the film’s songs.

I have to say that the special feature of seeing a deleted song that was shot but never used as a bonus, wow that is very cool. It could have been lost for all time, but recently uncovered and now part of this release. Unbelievable! I really wished they would have used it in the film, but it is awesome to have it on this disc.

I have to say I am extremely impressed with this Blu-ray release. Our family has always been a fan of Doris Day and to have this Doris Day musical on Blu-ray is a dream come true. I can not thank Warner Archive enough for the time and love they put into this release.

If you love musicals or Doris Day this tremendous Blu-ray release is a must add to your collection. Head over to Amazon.com and order your copy today.
