Shadow of the Thin Man {Warner Archive Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Shadow of the Thin Man is the 4th installment of The Thin Man movie series. Warner Archive have already released the first three films on Blu-ray now it is time for the fourth film to get it's chance to  shine in high definition.

The Thin Man series of films was based on a 1934
detective novel by Dashiell Hammett entitled The Thin Man. Now while Hammett never wrote a sequel to his original novel. The Thin Man saw many adventures on film featuring Nick and Nora Charles.

In the Shadow of the Thin Man detective Nick Charles and his wife Nora head to the track for a pleasant day at the races, but that is all about to change. A jockey who threw a race is murdered in the locker room. It is up to the duo finds out what really happened and who is to blame.

As with all the Thin Man movies there is a lot of mystery with some good fun and laughter thrown into the mix to make things a little bit more light-hearted. William Powell and Myrna Loy's chemistry together is undeniable. While Shadow of the Thin Man is not the strongest of the films in the series, it still is a very fun little adventure.

Warner Archive has transferred this film in 1080p in a 1.37:1 aspect ratio and a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 mono. There is also an option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. When examining the picture quality of this release, it looks so much more crisp and sounds much clearer than my DVD set.

Warner Archive Collection here recently have been adding some amazing bonuses to their Blu-ray releases and this on is no different. Take a look at what is included on this Blu-ray.

* Theatrical Trailer
* The Tell-Tale Heart: A 1941 Jules Dassin directorial debut shot film based on an Edgar Allen Poe story.
* The Goose Goes South: A very cute Hanna Barbera cartoon.

It is so nice to see Warner Archive rescuing these old classics and letting them have life in HD on Blu-ray. And with the adding of some very cool bonus features including the classic cartoons. This release in my humble opinion is a must own for William Powell and Myrna Loy fans.

So if you would like to add The Shadow of the Thin Man to your Thin Man collection, this Blu-ray is the perfect way to witness it. It looks that good. Head over to Amazon.com and get your copy today.
