It Happened at the World's Fair (1963) {Warner Archive Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Elvis Aaron Presley was born into a humble family in Tupelo Mississippi. Of two twin boys he was the one that survived. He twin brother Jesse was stillborn. The family attended an Assembly of God church and this is no doubt where he first found his love for music, but little did he know he would become a legend.

His musical career would open doors for Elvis to branch out into movies and he starred in 30 feature movies in his career. It started with Love Me Tender in 1956 and went on to be in some great dramatic films such as Jailhouse Rock and King Creole. And some more of the guy and girl romance films such as, Frankie and Johnny, Kissin' Cousins, Viva Las Vegas and many more.

As we are coming up on the 44th anniversary of the tragic passing of "The King of Rock and Roll", the good folks at Warner Archive decided to give Elvis fans as well as movie fans a great treat. 1963's It Happened at the World's Fair on Blu-ray.

The film follows Mike Edwards (Elvis), a crop duster who's business gets grounded, when he loses his plane. And it is all thanks to the gambling addition of his partner, Danny Burke (Gary Lockwood). To try and get their plane back, the duo hitchhike to Seattle World's Fair. But when they get there Mike find love and Danny finds easy pigeons for his gambling, but kind they find the happy ever after they are both looking for? You'll have to see the film to find out.

It happened at the world's fair is a typical 60s romantic musical comedy. There is nothing special about the film. It's a boy meets girl fun ride. Some films try to say something greater and other just try to transport you out of the cares of this life for a short time. Sometime this is just what you need, and It happened at the world's fair is a perfect escape film. It is also a fun note to look out for another acting legend Kurt Russell in very first screen appearance.

Warner Archive presents this film in 1080p and is in widescreen format in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The audio soundtrack is a DTS Master Audio 2.0. The film transfer is sharp as a tack. The colors are vibrant and there is no signs of damage to the print of any kind. Than for the audio it is clear with no hiss or pops it is just a nice sounding audio track.

Now for bonus features It maybe a bit light, but there is English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing as well as an amazing Theatrical Trailer. I love the addition of the trailer to these discs. I am a sucker for trailer.

For Elvis fans there is plenty of his charm and music to keep them happy and for comedy and romance there is enough of that to satisfy those desires as well! If you are wanting a film to just escape from all the turmoil of everyday life and take a trip to the a simpler time you really can't find a better why that Warner Archive's release of It happened at the World's Fair.
