Bob Hope worked with Paulette Goddard two times before in the amazing films The Cat and the Canary and The Ghostbreakers. These two seemed to have so much chemistry together it was inevitable that the studio would put them together again. This time in Nothing but the Truth.
Now Kino Lorber Studio Classics have released three Bob Hope classics one of which we already reviewed Caught in the Draft. Now we are looking at the Blu-ray release of Nothing But the Truth.
Stockbroker Steve Bennett (Hope) is being pressured to lie to his clients, but refuses to do it. So, his boss and his partner bet him that no one can go without lying for 24-hour. Steve accepts the challenge. He soon finds himself in the company of his boss’s beautiful niece (Goddard) as well as a conniving showgirl and some other interesting guests.
Hope and Goddard are shear gold as always, but the supporting cast is just as amazing including, Edward Arnold (Easy Living), Leif Erickson (Arabian Nights) and Willie Best (The Ghost Breakers). Director Elliott Nugent (My Favorite Brunette) does a magnificent job keeping everything rolling along as well!
While nothing but the truth may not be the most well known of Bib Hope films. And while this may not even be the best Hope / Goddard team-up this is defiantly a film that classic comedy fans should check out.
This new Blu-ray boasts of brand new 2K transfer. The black and white picture is truly a glorious one. There is no signs of damage to this print! It is presented in it's original full screen format and in 1080p. As for the Mono DTS audio it is crystal clear. I have to say this transfer looks so much better than the previous DVD releases.
This absolutely stunning looking transfer is not where it ends on this Blu-ray! Kino Lorber Studio Classics went a step further and added some cool bonus features for this release. Take a look.
