Caught in the Draft (Blu-ray Review)

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Bob Hope was an actor, comedian and entertainer for the troops for the majority of his life. His films didn't try to change the world with some Earth shattering message. They were just a time to take you out of the cares of this world and laugh.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics have been giving movie fans Bob Hope films on Blu-ray for quite a while now and now here comes another Hope classic on Blu-ray. This time it's1941's Caught in the Draft.

Bob Hope plays Don Bolton a movie star that hates loud noises. When the draft begins, Don doesn't want to trade his career for army fatigues. So he devises a plans to dodge the military draft by getting married. When Tony Fairbanks (Dorothy Lamour) visits her father, Peter (Clarence Kolb), a colonel, and the two are soon engaged. Don has another plan to make Tony think more of him by pretending to join the army he finds himself actually enlisted.

Bob Hope and Dorthy Lamour are always great together. Whether it is in My Favorite Brunette or the Road movies with Bing Crosby they shine together. And Caught in the Draft is no different. The supporting cast is a great addition to their chemistry as well!

While Caught in the Draft may not be Bob Hope's best one, there is so much to love in it! Highlighted by Bob Hope's quick wit and hilarious one liners. The film starts off a bit slow but picks up fast.

Kino Lorber's brand new 4K master is really a thing of beauty. It is presented in 1080p, but in it's original full screen format 1.37:1. The picture is crisp as a brand new 100 dollar bill. Now an absolute masterpiece of a restoration would be enough for me, but Kino Lorber Studo Classics went above and beyond and added some awesome bonus features. Take a look.

When I compare this Kino Lorber Studio Classics Blu-ray release to the previous DVD releases. I have to be honest there is no comparison. This new 4K transfer stands head and shoulders above all previous releases. The quality is out of this world!
