Kino Lorber Studio Classics this month have released three Bob Hope films on Blu-ray. Two of them we have already reviewed, Caught in the Draft and Nothing but the Truth.
I have been a fan of Bob Hope my whole life. From his TV specials to his tribute to the troops and even his hilarious movies. I remember watching Bob Hope and Dorthy Lamour in My Favorite Brunette when I was a kid from a public domain DVD and being enthralled by the hilarious thrilling adventure. But it didn't start there. Oh No before that film, there was Bob's Favorite Blonde. Now Kino Lorber Studio Classics have released My Favorite Blonde on Blu-ray.
The film follows a vaudeville performer
Larry Haines (Hope) and partner Percy the penguin who sets out for California seeking fame and
fortune. While on the train to the coast, Haines meets Karen
Bentley (Madeleine Carroll), a lady with a big secret..... She's a
spy who just happens to be carrying top-secret codes. Nazi
agents assume duo are working together so they frame Haines for
murder. This forces the two to go on the lam together.
My Favorite Blonde is a fun comedy adventure complete with Bob Hope's wit in the forefront. I
have to say Bob Hope and Madeleine Carroll are a lot of fun together. I
try never o compare a duo cause they all have a different kind of
chemistry. Of course we all know the chemistry between Hope and Lamour,
but Hope and Carroll in sadly underrated.
The film has been restored in 2K. There picture is in 1080p resolution and presented in the original aspect ratio of 1.37:1. The soundtrack is English 2.0 Mono DTS-High Definition Master Audio. There is also optional subtitles in English. I have to say this 2K master is truly a thing of beauty.
As impressed as I am with this new 2K master, I have to say that the special features are a nice bonus. The new audio commentary by Film Historian Samm Deighan drops a lot of knowledge to the viewer. This is a very nice bonus. Than there is also bonus Theatrical trailer.
As a fan of Bob Hope I am so glad that My Favorite Blonde got the love it has on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. This Blu-ray would make a great addition to anyone's classic comedy collection.
