Beloved Family Favorites (DVD Review)

Parents are always looking for good wholesome entertainment for their kids and families to enjoy together. Especially now as we are writing this review during the worldwide pandemic.

A few years ago Mill Creek Entertainment released Beloved Family Favorites. In this four disc DVD set there is 20 movies. In this collection there is adventure, fantasy, comedy, western, animation and more. Let's take a look at the film included in this set.

Disc 1

Jack And The Beanstalk (2010) Jack goes up the beanstalk to rescue a little girl who has been transformed into a harp. **

Jr. Detective Agency (2009) With help from his best friend, a 13-year-old sleuth searches for an elusive thief (Luke Perry). **

Fishtales (2007) While staying on a Greek island, a 12-year-old girl meets a beautiful mermaid who faces danger from an evil fisherman. **

Adventures Of A Teenage Dragon Slayer (2010) A 12-year-old boy is rescued from the school bully by a magical troll. The boy joins forces with the troll and his two friends to save the world from an evil vice-principal and an unleashed dragon. **

Spy School (2008) A boy known for telling tall tales overhears a plot to kidnap the President's daughter. When no one believes his story, he is forced to save her on his own. **



Disc 2

Gulliver's Travels (1939) In this animated classic, a doctor washes ashore on an island inhabited by little people. ***

Jack and the Beanstalk (1952) Abbott & Costello's version of the famous fairy tale, about a young boy who trades the family cow for magic beans. ***

Little Lord Fauntleroy (1936) An American boy turns out to be the long-lost heir of a British fortune. He is sent to live with the cold and unsentimental lord who oversees the trust. ***

Long John Silver Returns to Treasure Island (1954) In this sequel to Treasure Island, Long John hopes to rescue his friend Jim from a rival pirate and return for more treasure. ***

The Over the Hill Gang (1969) Four retired Texas Rangers are hired to clean up a town. ***



Disc 3

Coach of the Year (1980) Jim Brandon, a former pro football player now paralyzed from his time in the Vietnam War, is trying to get a job as a football coach. **

The Over the Hill Gang Rides Again (1970) Retired Texas Ranger Nash Crawford re-assembles his former Ranger outfit to fight crime in his hometown. ***

The Son of Monte Cristo (1940) The Grand Duchess of Zona (Joan Bennett) rightfully rules over the kingdom of Lichtenburg, but she is engaged in a power struggle with evil Gen. Gurko (George Sanders), who conspires to take over. The son of Monte Cristo dons all manner of cunning disguises to come to the queen's aid. ***

The Flying Deuces (1939) Ollie falls in love with a woman who happens to be married. To forget he talks Stan into joining the Foreign Legion with him. ***

The Jungle Book (1942) A boy raised by wild animals tries to adapt to human village life. ***


Disc 4

The Borrowers (1973)
An eight-year-old boy discovers a family of tiny people, only a few inches tall, living beneath the floorboards of a Victorian country home. **

The Little Princess (1939)
A little girl is left by her father in an exclusive seminary for girls, when her father fights in the Second Boer War. Later, when he is presumed dead she is forced to become a servant. ***

The Magic Sword (1962)
The son of a sorceress, armed with weapons, armour and six magically summoned knights, embarks on a quest to save a princess from a vengeful wizard. **

The New Adventures of Heidi (1978)
Heidi leaves the mountains of Switzerland for a trip to New York City. **

The Pied Piper of Hamelin (1958)
Overwhelmed by rats, a medieval town hires a magical piper who can rid the town of the pest in exchange for gold but the crooked mayor has no intention of honoring the deal. ***
