The 1980s was a great time for sci-fi and horror films. Film fans look back fondly at those years and love to relive the films of those years gone by. But what about now! Why can't films now capture the magic that was the 80s?
Well, writer/director Steven Kostanski tired to bring everything that made 80s film making great back again with his new film PG: Psycho Goreman. Everything the music, practical effects, chases and more. But does Psycho Goreman really hit all the right notes? Let's find out!
Mimi and Luke unwittingly resurrect an ancient alien overlord who was entombed on Earth millions of years ago after a failed attempt to destroy the universe. They nickname the evil creature Psycho Goreman (or PG for short) and use the magical amulet they discovered to force him to obey their childish whims. It isn’t long before PG’s reappearance draws the attention of intergalactic friends and foes from across the cosmos, and a rogues’ gallery of alien combatants converges in small-town suburbia to battle for the fate of the galaxy.
The film was written by director Steven Kostanski and is a love letter to the 1980s. The violence could be a bit much for those that don't like too much of that! Nita-Josee Hanna who plays Mimi has a bright future ahead of her. The whole cast is good! Although the disrespect between the parents and the children gets old quite fast in my opinion.
The film was fun for the most part. But I have to say that there is one scene that is extremely offensive to those with religious belief. It is so objectionable that I had to bring this out cause the offense is great. This one scene really ruined the movie for me. I feel viewers need to know this going in.
Psycho Goreman is splashed with an 80s color palette, it is true eye candy. The film is a retro comedy horror that will keep fans on the edge of their seats, if you can get past that extremely offensive scene.
