Terry Pratchett Double Feature

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Sir Terence David John Pratchett was an English humorist, satirist, and author of fantasy novels. He is best known for his Discworld series of 41 novels. His books have sold over 85 million copies worldwide and was UK's best-selling author in the 1990s.

Last year Pratchett's Good Omens debuted on Amazon in a 6 episode mini-series. No doubt seeing this piqued the interest of people to discover the books and other mini-series of Sir Terence Pratchett.

Two of Pratchett's novels were put on the small screen in mini-series events in 2006 and 2008. The two film events were Hogfather and The Color of Magic. Now Mill Creek Entertainment has given these two epic mini-series a Blu-ray release for the first time in the United States.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend some time.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

HOGFATHER (2006) It's the holiday of Hogswatch, the night when kids anticipate presents from the beloved Hogfather. But someone wants the Hogfather out of the way. Now it's up to the most unlikely of heroes to get the holiday back on track. ***
THE COLOR OF MAGIC (2008) Inside a magical realm known as Discworld, a naive tourist is on holiday until a terrible fire breaks out, forcing him to flee along with an incompetent wizard. Now, as the clueless pair set out on a magical journey across the disc, neither realizes that they are merely pawns in an elaborate board game being played by the Gods. ***

These two mini-series films were masterfully produced and directed. They really do bring the worlds of Terry Pratchett to vibrant life. I found myself getting lost in the adventures. Which is exactly what a good film or mini-series should do. The acting and the direction is great. These are really great source of entertainment. There is some violence and mild bad language, so parental guidance is suggested here.

Now for the Blu-ray release. Each of these films are given it's own Blu-ray disc. That is a huge plus, as both film series is given the most amount of space for the best quality possible, and they really do look stunning. They are presented in 1080p High definition in their original widescreen format in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio is in DTS-HD Master Audio.  There is English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing which is always a nice little feature as well.

So if your a fan of fantasy films or Terry Pratchett! Or if you just want a great way to escape the cares of this life for just a short time, this double feature is a great way to do that. Head over to MillCreekEnt.com or Amazon.com and order your copy today!
